Dr. Brhanu Tekais an Assistant Professor of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. His research focuses on cancer epidemiology, cancer biology, and cancer biomarkers, with an emphasis on the diagnostic and prognostic applications of cervicovaginal microbiota in the prevention and control of cervical cancer. He is particularly interested in understanding the molecular epidemiology of cervical cancer and the mechanisms underlying carcinogenesis.
He holds a B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology from Hawassa University College of Health Sciences (2007), a M.Sc. in Medical Microbiology from Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences, School of Medicine, Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Parasitology (2011), and is currently completing his PhD in Medical Microbiology at Addis Ababa University in collaboration with Martin Luther University, Halle, Germany, and Charité Campus Virchow Klinikum, Berlin, Germany (2023).
His work experience includes serving as an Assistant Professor of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at Addis Ababa University since August 2020. Prior to this, he was a Lecturer of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the same institution from February 2015 to July 2020, and a Graduate Assistant and Lecturer of Medical Microbiology at Wollo University, Dessie, from December 2007 to February 2015.
